Aditi Subramanian

Sustainability Consultant

Growing up in India, I was able to observe first-hand the challenges of coping with a rapidly developing nation, growing population and increased urbanisation, all of which were adding to a great level of environmental stress. Wanting to turn my observations and intentions into actions, I pursued my Batchelor's in Environmental Science and later my Masters in Climate Change, Management and Finance from Imperial College London. My academic background allowed me to deepen my understanding of the interconnections between different stakeholders including businesses, scientists and policymakers as well as gain a holistic perspective on sustainability.

My role as a Sustainability Consultant at Greenstone allows me to work towards my aspiration of building a sustainable world for future generations by assisting clients to manage and reduce their GHG emissions, help them achieve their targets and be a part of their sustainability journey.

Having lived across 4 countries, I really enjoy travelling, meeting new people and exploring new cultures as it allows me to gain a different perspective on life. I am trained in Indian Classical Music and happily embrace my roots by continuing to learn and perform concerts when I get a chance. I also enjoy sharing music with autistic children over the weekends as I truly believe that music has the power to heal.

Consultant

Growing up in Mexico really opened my eyes to problems of social injustice, accessibility and to the urgent and significant environmental problems the world is facing.

In 2013 I had a life-changing experience working as a volunteer in Tanzania that led me to pursue a career in the environmental field. I studied for a B.A. in Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility and have recently completed my M.S. degree in Sustainability Management from Columbia University in New York.

I joined Greenstone in 2020 as a consultant, where I provide support and build relationships with clients to help them understand their sustainability reporting goals and demonstrate how our software can enable them to achieve their ESG strategies.

I have experience working internationally in the sustainability space in both the private and public sector in organizations like the United Nations, Ashoka, the Mexican Ministry for Social Development and more.

My biggest passion is travelling and getting to know the different cultures and lifestyles. I have been lucky enough to have visited more than 40 countries around the world. I love scuba diving, skiing and exploring nature, which really motivates me to contribute to preserving our natural resources so that not only us, but future generations can have the same privileges and access to natural wonders as we do.

Chief Technology Officer

I'm Chief Technology Officer, responsible for ensuring that we are constantly blending the latest innovations in web-enabled software with the evolving requirements of our clients and the non-financial reporting space. With quarterly releases across two solution platforms, the Dev team is kept busy, but it’s rewarding work when we see our solutions being used across the globe.
I joined Greenstone bringing 20+ years of IT experience with me. I have designed and developed software for UK military and defence companies, aerospace and even the odd nuclear power station.
When away from the screen my time is spent balancing time with the family and getting away for the odd bit of climbing, cycling or fishing.

Managing Director North America

I’ve worked in the sustainability sector for 13 years and been with Greenstone since 2012. Prior to my Greenstone role, I spent time at the Environment Agency, Carbon Trust and Ricardo consulting public and private sector organisations on developing their environmental policies and delivering sustainability programmes.
As Managing Director North America, I’m responsible for the operation of Greenstone’s North America business unit. This includes being responsible for new business, client delivery and managing the consultants that help breathe life into our clients’ data in this market. I also manage the Greenstone Enterprise product, making sure it evolves with the sustainability reporting landscape to meet our clients’ needs today and in the future. Prior to this role, I was Head of Client Services at Greenstone for 5 years.
I grew up in Singapore so love to travel. I’m a bit of a hobby fiend actually so when I’m not baking for the office, I’m either at life-drawing class, reading, organising treasure hunts or at some kind of music concert.

Sustainability Consultant

My passion for sustainability developed from my ambition to help businesses become more environmentally friendly and responsible for their actions. My role as a sustainability consultant at Greenstone has allowed me to do just that by working with a range of companies who all look to assess and ultimately reduce their environmental impact through a number of strategies.
Previous to working at Greenstone I completed a BSc in Environmental Science with a placement year working within the sustainability team of a multimillion-pound electronics company. After university, I moved to Whistler, Canada for two years to explore more of the natural world. These experiences alongside my degree have allowed me to develop my understanding of what drives businesses to become more sustainable and the most effective ways to do so.
At Greenstone, I am able to use my technical and data management skills to support client projects and their use of our software. I thoroughly enjoy working in an expanding industry within a progressive company who are always evolving with their clients best interests at heart.
I love travelling and learning about different cultures, skiing, scuba diving and watching sport - Especially Arsenal.

As a Software Tester at Greenstone, I work closely with the Development  Team to ensure that the appropriate level of Software testing is performed and documented before releasing to clients.

My background is in Finance but I made a career move into IT- precisely Software Testing- a few years ago and haven’t looked back since.

I’ve had the great privilege of working for many global businesses across various sectors including Fashion, Brewery and Insurance.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching football and spending time with my family.

Emily Blackman

Sustainability Consultant

Prior to joining Greenstone, I completed a BSc in Geography at the University of Bristol with an Erasmus year in Grenoble, France. In recent years, both of these cities have been recognised for their sustainability initiatives and being exposed and involved in these was a key driver in my decision to become a sustainability consultant. During my degree, I also discovered the power of data analysis as a tool to better understand current and future environmental challenges.

My role at Greenstone allows me to combine my interest in data analysis with my desire to help businesses become more sustainable. Our client base is very diverse and I really enjoy understanding the different requirements of each client and advising them on their non-financial reporting and analysis of sustainability metrics.

In my free time, you will find me walking, running, or cycling in the great outdoors. When I am not being active then I will probably be experimenting in the kitchen, often with varied success.

As Marketing Executive at Greenstone, I work closely with the Head of Marketing & Partnerships. Being involved in a broad range of marketing, communications and brand development campaigns, my role is all about enabling more companies to invest in sustainability.

I've always felt passionate about preserving our natural environment. As I'm actively trying at an individual level to live a sustainable lifestyle, I've realised that true change can only be made through communication.

I hold a Batchelor in Journalism and a Master in Digital Media. I have been working in Marketing for the past couple of years, and I have learned that choosing appropriate creative communications to reach out to companies can make an impact on the world.

I love vintage shopping, sewing while listening to music or discovering a new hobby to add to my list of many!

As part of Greenstone’s in-house development team, I am involved in the ongoing development and maintenance of our enterprise-level software. This often involves developing tailored reports for our clients to ensure they are getting true value out of their data. I also work with the Client Services team on the design and development of new solutions and modules.

I recently became a dad for the first time, which means the surfboarding and base jumping that I would have pretended to do, have been pushed aside for sleeping and beard growing. Occasionally I still get to read or get out and about, but frankly, I cannot remember life before my daughter.

Head of SupplierPortal

I arrived at Greenstone at the start of 2011, having completed an MSc in Carbon Management, followed by a period at an ethical carbon offset provider. My role as a consultant in the client services team brings me in daily contact with both existing and potential clients. Building relationships with new clients from the beginning is both enjoyable and rewarding for both parties, and more rapidly captures the huge benefits of our software.

I have developed my experience in delivering projects and embedding new processes across a large number of public and private sector organisations. My particular focus is on our close affiliation with the legal sector and managing SupplierPortal, our responsible sourcing solution.

I love to get over to the West Coast of Ireland, when I can, to hit a golf ball or two and catch up on my reading (and the odd Guinness!). I play football and cricket; indeed, enjoy playing or following all sports. When not active, I like to pursue my interest in wine and improving my cooking.

Sustainability Consultant

For my undergraduate studies, I completed my Bachelors in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering where I completed my final year project building and launching a mid-power rocket. I furthered my studies by undertaking a Masters in Engineering Business Management, where I was given an insight into financial markets, management practices, accounting and sustainable development.

I chose to pursue a career in sustainability because I want to contribute to the global effort in tackling climate change. I began work at a local consultancy, focusing on the delivery of a range of sustainability-related projects such as compliance, carbon measurement & management and ISO management systems. This role was incredibly rewarding and showed me I thoroughly enjoy understanding the inner workings of company operations and assisting with establishing carbon and cost reductions.

My decision to join Greenstone came from my belief in technological solutions being a driving factor in appropriating corporate carbon consumption and tackling climate change. My role as a Sustainability Consultant allows me to work with clients on a range of projects from carbon accounting, supply chain, and sustainable finance. I work with clients in multiple sectors including banking, investment management, logistics, real estate and retail.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes, along with watching and playing sports such as football and cricket.

Sustainability Consultant

As a sustainability consultant, I help clients achieve their sustainability-related targets. My work allows me to play a part in solving the sustainability issues that I was first exposed to at university.

I completed my BSc in Biology at Imperial College London. This degree highlighted the considerable impacts that climate change and unsustainable practices have on the environment and on society as a whole. To further my understanding of how I can help combat these problems, I decided to complete an MSc in Environmental Technology, also at Imperial College London, where I specialised in Environmental resource management. For a brief period, I worked as a data analyst, in which I was responsible for reporting on trends in the British vehicle fleet, such as the uptake of electric vehicles. My subsequent move to Greenstone was prompted by a growing desire to more directly engage with clients to solve sustainability issues.

When I’m not at work, you’re most likely to find me training at my local fencing club (I’m an épéeist), competing on the national circuit, or cooking something up in the kitchen.

I joined Greenstone after a year of exploring the world; seeing its rainforests and oceans which every day I fight to protect in my work as a Sustainability consultant. I work with a diverse range of companies to address their environmental impacts and use the Greenstone software to provide beneficial analysis that can lead to positive change, which is something I find very rewarding. I have a masters in Environmental Governance and a background in Sustainability in the property sector.

I’m passionate about environmental stewardship and am involved with a number of climate change activist groups. I’m a firm believer that if we all made small changes on a mass scale we could make a huge positive impact in the world we’re living in today. Other than being a modern-day superhero – I love dogs, cakes and going to the gym.

Head of Client Services

My work with Greenstone started in 2014 following a period with a sustainability and CSR consultancy. This previous position had a strong focus on developing and delivering sustainability-focused communications projects, reports and wider content for a variety of organisations.

I moved on from my previous role with the aim of being more involved with the data behind reporting; something Greenstone certainly allows me to do. As Head of Client Services, I am responsible for Greenstone’s overall client delivery, management of the client services team and new business development opportunities. I act as Project Director to a number of clients and it is rewarding to be able to build strong relationships and watch our client’s sustainability reporting grow through Greenstone’s innovative solutions and services.

Away from the desk, a lot of my spare time is spent pretending to still play (watch) sport and trying to stay relatively fit. Although I have lived in London for a number of years now, there are still plenty of local pubs to explore!

I am currently a private investor and risk consultant but prior to this, I did a 14-year stint at Goldman Sachs, where I served on the Firmwide Technology Committee and several Risk Committees and reached the level of Managing Director. I also worked as a Managing Director for three years at Lehman Brothers and have run several global trading businesses, principally focused on equity and debt derivatives.

Head of Marketing & Partnerships

As Head of Marketing & Partnerships at Greenstone, my role is to market Greenstone to the outside world which, with a great team of specialists and fantastic software solutions to offer, is a real pleasure. Before Greenstone, I spent 5 years working for a global environmental consultancy; 18 months of which was spent in the US.

My role is pretty varied; one minute I am working with the team to produce fresh and interesting content for the website, or organising our latest topic-led webinar, the next I am meeting with a like-minded company to explore exciting ways in which we can work together. I manage our global partnership programme and work with our partners to ensure we build and maintain strong and successful relationships.

When I am not in the office, you’ll find me swimming in one of the great outdoor lidos in London, cooking for or eating with friends and family (I’m a real foodie!) or dancing away at a music festival or gig.

I am a Professor of Energy and Climate Change in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester and have been a non-executive Director at Greenstone since 2007.

I was previously Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and now lead Tyndall Manchester’s Energy and Climate Change programme. I previously contributed analysis underpinning the UK’s Climate Change Act and the development of national carbon budgets.

I have a decade’s industrial experience, principally in the petrochemical industry. I sit as a commissioner on the Welsh Government’s climate change commission and am a director of Greenstone. I am a chartered engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Chief Executive Officer

As CEO of Greenstone, my role is to ensure we have the right team and solutions in place to keep our clients happy and stay ahead of their evolving requirements in the constantly changing world of measuring, managing and reporting non-financial information.

Fortunately, I’ve had an eclectic past working with a variety of organisations in strategy, innovation, technology, marketing and operations in both commercial and NGO sectors, across multiple geographies. The blend of client management, innovation, subject matter expertise and software development at Greenstone draws from all of those experiences in a unique way and makes every day an interesting one.

Away from work, my weekends are taken up by watching school sport and pursuing impractical endurance cycling and climbing ambitions. I also keep active in the third sector through SOS Children’s Villages UK where I’m a Trustee and OnPurpose where I help mentor the next generation of social enterprise leaders.

My role at Greenstone is to jointly lead the growth of our business in North America and replicate the success that has been achieved in other parts of the world.

Previously, throughout my career, I have joined small to medium growing businesses and worked within them across a variety of functional capacities. Regardless of my functional role, the emphasis has always been on ensuring great customer experience, growing the business and developing teams internally. My first exposure to ESG and sustainability was through a private equity investment role which allowed me to both evaluate new investments through this lens and to evaluate our own business and our impact. From this experience, I decided to focus my career on this burgeoning area. Other industry experience includes office automation, agricultural biotechnology, consulting and banking.

In my free time, I pursue a number of activities including music (I play guitar and piano), golf (poorly) and generally trying to stay in shape as I age.

Co-founder Director (non-executive)

As a founding Director, I have enjoyed seeing Greenstone grow from an idea born out of a few client requests for carbon emissions information to a broad non-financial enterprise solution used by clients across the world.

I’m also a Founder and COO of Qmee and a Non-Executive Director of Zenith. Qmee is a free browser app that provides users with additional search results and cash rewards - a disruptive technology that rewards users for the value they create through their search activity.  Zenith is the leading independent vehicle solutions provider in the UK and winner of the leasing company of the year 2012 and 2013. Prior to Qmee and Zenith, I founded and grew Provecta car leasing until its acquisition by Zenith and spent 10 years in the City, largely within the Swire Group.

I started my working life as an industrial chemist in South Africa working in a number of manufacturing facilities in quality control and research. In 1990, with my partner, I moved to the UK and found work with ICI paints in the research laboratories, and then later into IT as a business analyst mainly in the testing and training of bespoke software packages.

A few years on, I joined CoreRatings which was a corporate responsibility rating agency providing independent investment analysis of corporate responsibility risks. I then joined URS Corporation as a corporate responsibility consultant where some of the projects I was involved in included the calculation of the clients’ carbon emissions.

By happy coincidence, my role at Greenstone includes science, IT business analysis and corporate responsibility. My responsibilities include ensuring that all specifications for the Greenstone software are accurate, that all new releases are tested and robust, whilst looking after a number of clients including Fujitsu who were our first client.

Away from Greenstone, I enjoy travelling, although the desire to visit family in South Africa rather limits the holiday left for other travel, sport (watching rather than participating), gardening and walking in the beautiful Surrey countryside.

Sustainability Consultant

Growing up on a touristic island, I recall going to the beach and coming across large amounts of micro-plastics blended in the sand. This made me aware of the importance of preserving and protecting the local natural resources.

I started engaging in beach clean-ups and became increasingly interested in sustainability issues. As a result, I studied an MEng in Chemical and Energy Engineering and pursued an MSc in Environmental Engineering. This equipped me with knowledge in fields such as air pollution, land contamination, renewable technologies and water treatment. Moreover, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of shifting towards a circular economy and taking climate action.

I briefly worked at an environmental consultancy in which I performed carbon footprint calculations, conducted environmental risk assessments and completed an air emissions inventory. Moving to Greenstone was an easy decision as it has sustainability at its core and has a strong commitment to providing top-notch client service.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, travelling, trying different things and dancing to Spanish/Latino beats!

I am a non-executive Director of Greenstone where I provide macro-environmental and climate change advice. I am a Professor of Physical Geography at the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol and also lead The Bristol Research Initiative for the Dynamic Global Environment (BRIDGE).

My work at Bristol is focused on developing a quantitative understanding of the processes that cause natural Earth system change enabling us to better identify future, human-made change.

I also work on a range of future climate change issues such as the possible climate effects of Amazonian deforestation. My research team in BRIDGE looks at the complex interactions between all the Earth's components as well as the influence of human activity on global change. Such work provides information to bodies such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and ultimately feeds into the UK government's policy. I also serve on the management panel for several national and international climate change research programs.

My role at Greenstone gives me useful insights into the responses and challenges facing commercial organisations and provides a balance to my academic world.

In September 2015, I joined the board of Greenstone as Finance Director, having previously spent twenty-five years in the commodities and financial services sectors, operating across a wide spectrum of businesses in general management and financial roles.

I have been fortunate to travel extensively, previously living in Holland and Switzerland and have held a variety of roles from Managing Director of a global coffee business to more recently operating as a Finance Director of a UK retail business.

I enjoy the financial and operational challenges of working in an innovative and fast-moving business like Greenstone and think that our team of client-focused consultants really sets us apart.

Outside of work I am an avid consumer of most sports and have to suffer the pain of watching West Ham most weekends. I like to get away to our ‘bolt hole’ in Norfolk where I spend lots of time with family and walking our dog on glorious empty beaches.
