Greenstone has partnered with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to measure the carbon footprint of the 5th GRI Global Conference on 18th-20th May 2016.
Using its Enterprise software solution, Greenstone will calculate the carbon footprint of the 3-day conference being held at the RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre in Amsterdam. To measure the environmental impacts of the conference, the carbon footprint will include carbon emissions associated with use of the venue, attendees traveling to and from the event and the logistics involved. This will include:
- Use of energy, water, waste and food waste at the conference centre
- Attendee travel to and from the event
- Hotel stays
- Freight movements
- Supplier / Exhibitor logistics
- Courier services
- Printing of materials
Carbon emissions will be calculated using the GHG Protocol Methodology, whereby nationally recognised emissions factors are applied in the first instance. Following the event, GRI will publish the results of the report to all attendees and key stakeholders.
Greenstone has carried out similar footprints for events and conferences including the Ryder Cup Gold Tournament and the EAUC Conference.

5th GRI Global Conference
Greenstone is also holding a 3-hour interactive masterclass at the conference. The masterclass titled ‘How to breathe life into your sustainability data’ will aim to address why it is important for reporting organisations to move beyond the sustainability report itself to ensure that decision makers have access to the high quality and reliable data they are increasingly demanding. It will discuss the state of global sustainability data, and what organisations can do to move beyond the sustainability report to ensure quality and reliability of data which is meaningful to different audiences.
As part of our partnership, Greenstone is able to offer its contacts a 10% discount on registration fees - please use the invitation code GRIDC during registration. For more information on GRI’s 5th Annual Global Conference, the masterclasses and how to register please visit GRI's website.
